Blog #10 Justice system
In the Judicial system there are two sides, the defense or the accused, and the plaintiff or person pressing charges. When somebody commits a crime they have to go to court and a jury or group 6 to 12 people who decide whether or not the person is guilty. Each side has a lawyer who represents them and can question the anybody they want, and provide evidence that can help solve the case. The defense lawyer is the person who represents the person the charges are being brought upon. Their goal is to prove the defendant is innocent and/or get the defendant a shorter prison term. Then there is the prosecuting attorney who cares for the plaintiff and helps prove the defendant is guilty. lastly there is the judge, the person who helps keep order in the courtroom and has the authority to charge people who get out of control in the courtroom. The judge is like the Referee in a football game.
In the Constitution it states that you are innocent until proven quilty in the court of law. This means that you cannot be sentenced for a crime until you have trial by jury which decides your fate. Meaning you are not going to jail for a crime until it is proven that you committed the crime. Sometimes in modern society this in not always true though. The people sometimes take matters into their own hands and will punish you without trial. To prove that someone is innocent or quilty juries have to look at the evidence provided. If there is not sufficient evidence then the accused is released and cannot be charged. Without evidence you cannot get arrested or sent to prison no matter what happens.

"Innocent until proven guilty" is actually not in the Constitution.
