Blog #11 Serial
I was not able to start Serial at the same time the class did, and have had to play catch up, but so far Serial has been a very interesting experience. It amazes me how we can listen to somebody investigate a closed case from over twenty years ago and get commentary from the officers and other people that were caught up in the case back in 1999. It is hard for me to decide whether or not Adnan is guilty because I have not heard all of the podcast, and no nothing about the case other than what I've learned in class. With that said, I do not believe Adnan is guilty because of his character and how he reacted to his breakup with Hae. After breaking up Adnan and Hae remained friends. Adnan also was friends with Don, Hae's new boy friend. I think that Jay either killed Hae or play a major roll in her murder because he was able to tell the police the location of her car. Jay struggled to tell a consistent story to the detectives, changing key parts like where he saw the body and if he help burry Hae or not.
This unit is very different. I have never listened to a podcast before, and really didn't even know what a podcast was. I like listening to the podcast as a class because we can interact and share thoughts with each other on what we think about the podcast. Some parts I have found more difficult than others because of the audio quality, and because it is hard for me to sit to answer a question in time to answer the other and catch key information that is easily missed. this weekend I went back and listened to areas of the podcast I missed, and areas that I found hard to understand. I think this unit is a very good unit to keep in the spring semester for English 2 honors classes. The only thing I would do differently is put this unit at the end of the semester because it's more of a fun and relaxed unit that is very long. I believe if this unit was placed at the end of the semester students would enjoy it more knowing it is the last thing they would have to do as a Sophomore in English. I think that having this at the end of the semester would be good because it would end the year on a fun note.
